The design begins with an idea. At this stage we do research and analysis to strengthen the basis of the project. From the research comes brainstorming for functional and visual ideas, which sets the stage for the initial sketching.
Initial Idea Sketches
The first phase of the 2D design entails diverse exploration of visual & functional ideas. We creatively visualize a variety of design opportunities based on previous concept & idea thinking.
After the initial idea sketching, 2-3 specific directions are chosen to expand and develop upon.
A final direction is selected and we work in depth to define the exact details and inner workings of the design. Here we optimize the visual aesthetic of the design through careful tweaking of lines and forms.
3D Modeling (CAD)
After a design is established in 2D, our modelers begin work in 3D software to visualize the design in space. Typically the phase begins with a rough model and iterates towards production & manufacturing feasability.
During or after the completion of the 3D computer model, we create prototypes at full size or smaller to test out the design in reality. In this phase we use a variety of methods to create physical models including 3D printing and milling foam.
